The Advocates’ Society is a longtime member of the Ontario Alliance for Sustainable Legal Aid (ASLA), a group of legal organizations that advocate for a sustainable, effective, and high-functioning legal aid system that meets the Ontario public’s need for legal aid services. TAS leader Anthony Moustacalis has been appointed the chair of ASLA this term. Anthony has been a criminal defence lawyer for over 35 years, as well as a tireless advocate for a fairer and more efficient criminal justice system. He brings deep expertise and knowledge to the role of leading ASLA this term.
“With TAS’s involvement, ASLA has assisted in advancing Legal Aid reforms and increasing funding over the years. We have had successful meetings with Legal Aid Ontario’s board and with the Attorney General of Ontario Doug Downey. I look forward to the continued support of TAS and thank Lenny Abramowicz for his stalwart support and collegiality for over 15 years as the Past President of ASLA.”
